“Therefore, fear the Lord and worship Him in sincerity and truth. Get rid of the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and worship the LORD.
But if it doesn’t please you to worship the LORD, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship the LORD.”—Joshua 24:14-15
Serving God is not our only option. It was not Joshua's only option. He could have adopted the religious beliefs and practices of his family heritage in the pagan land of Egypt. He could have accepted the idolatrous religion of his neighbors in the region where he now lived to avoid offending anyone. These options were easier choices than worshiping God. But Joshua had witnessed God's faithfulness. He was convinced that his Lord was the only true God and that serving Him would bring victory and blessing.
Joshua decided to serve God alone. He was determined to teach his entire household to honor his Lord, just as we too have been so instructed. (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)
You, too must decide whom you will serve and worship in sincerity and truth. A chocolate box assortment of watered down empty 'Christian' denominations clamor for your attention at the price of your pocket change and loss of an hour of your Netflix viewing a week. Other false teachers lead you to the pit via the sale of 'wealth and health' for the low, low price of your tithe.
Or, perhaps you go full-culture virtue signaling to the applause of the crowd? You can make a vapid, utterly meaningless declaration that you are 'spiritual' or take some other vague 'love' emoji-deep stand with the cultural cause du jour approved of in the secular marketplace of veiled self-worship.
So the question stands plainly before you: who exactly do you worship?
“Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. – Deuteronomy 6:4-7
