If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need—how can God’s love reside in him? Little children, we must not love with word or speech, but with truth and action. - 1 John 3:17-18
If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it? In the same way faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself. - James 2:15-17
Our words, feelings, social media posts, and best wishes won't feed the hungry, clothe a shivering kid, or shelter a decimated refugee family. God has blessed us with hands and feet and money and minds to do His will on this earth.
His will is clear: that we would glorify Him by producing fruit abounding in grace and mercy. This fruit is the evidence, the very manifestation of knowing Him, being changed by Him, and reflecting Him to the world around us.
In grace, we give away what a complete stranger needs that he could never repay us for. In mercy our hands, our feet, our time and our money serve as an authentic testimony to our love for God and our love for our neighbor that is in despair.
Let us serve God, care for the brokenhearted, and live righteous lives in the fullness that God has laid before us.
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry for help. The face of the Lord is set against those who do what is evil, to erase all memory of them from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit. - Psalm 34:15-18
