But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. - 1 Peter 2:9
Chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation - This is the eternal identity of the true Christian; every man, woman, and child who believes that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Him from the dead for our trespasses.
Unbelievers are strangers, neighbors, friends, and family. As we once were, they are blind and lost and flailing about as to for 'the meaning of life' or their 'purpose'. They may look for this in their academic credentials, athletic skills, business, child rearing 'success'; any number of temporary vain pursuits, never finding it as they remain in the darkness, just as we once were.
Others may looking to distract, numb, or entertain themselves to death with their conscience screaming as to the emptiness of their life that might be drowned out or numbed by the noise of political rage, popular 'causes', Netflix-binging, house-clothes-trinket shopping, extremes sports/exercise, alcohol, prescription meds, or social-media 'like' hunting. The believer's identify as a saved and adopted son or daughter has been determined by God Himself. He chooses us, He blesses us, He makes us holy, He gives us a new mind and heart after calling us out of the darkness to TELL THE WORLD OF GOD'S GLORY AND TO DO HIS WILL on earth in word and deed. We're not here to have a wing at a university named after us, own the biggest house on the block, or numb our souls into a quiet, but comfortable death in an easy chair. We are here being used to bring spiritual sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and life to once dead souls by the preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. In a lost world, we've been called out and shown His marvelous light. He's shown us the way to train and to work for this time on earth and eternity that awaits.
But have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness, for the training of your body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it hold promise for the present life and also for the life to come. - 1 Timothy 4:7-8
